Happy Groundhog’s Day, everyone!! For those who don’t know quirky American folklore, Groundhog’s Day is a lovely little holiday where a “semi-immortal” groundhog in Pennsylvania named Punxsutawny Phil predicts our weather for the first third of our new year!
“According to the tradition, if Phil sees his shadow and returns to his hole, he has predicted six more weeks of winter-like weather. If Phil does not see his shadow, he has predicted an “early spring.”” – Wikipedia, Punxsutawney Phil
Today, Phil didn’t see his shadow, so…EARLY SPRING YA’LL!
Yeah, this is a totally bizarre holiday, but I have fond memories of being an elementary kid learning our Penn. State folklore and watching Phil do his weather prediction “magic”. For those who missed the big hoop-la here’s the video! Enjoy!
